We are thrilled to announce we will be hosting a people's assembly in Butler County in July! A lot of details are getting ironed out right now, but we are putting a tentative date and location of July 12th in Hamilton.
For those unfamiliar with a people's assembly, it is a form of participatory democracy where members of the public gather together to speak, learn from one another, and make decisions. For some examples, we made a linktree: https://linktr.ee/butlermovement
This is gonna a be modified version of that concept(I will give a detailed post regarded the theory and structure that we are using in the coming days). Ours is going to be structured more like a convention, due to time and other concerns we have with with the standard people's assembly in practice.
Our goal: Organization of the working-class across the county, hearing from community members about their experiences, and a formulation of a list of actionable changes we would like to see to improve the lives of people in the area. With respect to the uprising and the continued inaction of our government, organizer are going to bringing draft suggestions regarding changes to policing and law enforcement(these won't be prioritized or treated differently than suggestions made by any other community member). However, injustice is very multifaceted in this country, and we will be open to discussing any issue of concern to the community.
